DARN PHOTOS: What we look like
<BACK Norman Rockwell scenes

Rockwell folding end loop:
The latest club project is a folding end loop designed by Mike McBride and David Savage. As if the compact, folding structure wasn't enough Dave Savage and Ken Melchiorre came up with the idea of using a Norman Rockwell theme. We would reproduce some of Norman Rockwell's famous paintings in N-scale!
Boards along the sides would show each each scene and a companion button would light up the appropriate scene on the module.
The module is completly self-contained with all wiring, switch machines and legs fitted on the inside. The case is hinged down the center to allow it to fold, lock shut, and carried with one hand.
In order to put structures and scenery on the module and still have it fold, some complex mirrored geometry was employed. We had to make sure that buildings on one side would match up to open spaces on the other. So it was decided to have a town on the one side to accommodate Rockwell's small town scenes, and a lake on the other that the buildings would fit into. That side would have Rockwell's more rural scenes.
This photo shows progress as of 2/8/09. Frame, track, electrical and some scenery is complete. It was actually run at two shows in Tunhannock.
Norman Rockwell Scenes:
One set of scenes was planned for a 50's style diner. Using a Micro Engineering diner kit, Jamie Woods modeled these three Rockwell scenes in the Diner's interior.
These two scenes are being modeled together along the backs of a few DPM building kits. Jamie Woods built the structures and figures, Dave Savage is modeling the truck.
This scene of a returning Marine was modeled by Jamie Woods with a Micro Engineering 50s Gulf station and figures. Note the interior lighting will be controlled by spectators pressing the appropriate button.
